I’d always intended to rig VOLUNTEER with hand-spliced stainless steel wire as I had on my Historical 18-footer replica BRITANNIA and on my Lyle Hess 24 SERENITY, but a number of people I respected have begun to use Dyneema, so I decided to try it. I engaged my old mate Joe Henderson of Henderson Rigging to do the job as he has been working with Dyneema for decades, and I sat down with him recently to get his thoughts on Dyneema down on video. As long as you keep in mind Dyneema’s distinct properties, it seems to me to be the way to go on any sailing boat including those with traditional rigs. Video includes a few shots of VOLUNTEER sailing.
