VOLUNTEER is afloat and I’m greatly enjoying sailing and racing on her, but I’ve still got another bit of footage that I wasn’t able to find the time to edit and post in the rush to launch. Salt water doesn’t rot boats, fresh water does, and one of the most common ways for water to enter the structure of a vessel is through badly sealed deck fittings. Decades of experience and tips from other shipwrights led me to the methods I describe in this video to help minimise water ingress.
