Description

On 8 November 1919 a new 18-footer joined the fleet of the flying eighteens on Sydney Harbour, beginning a career involving 23 seasons of racing, decades as a motor launch and restoration for display at the Australian National Maritime Museum. Here is the 100-year story of the boat and the people around her including builder and skipper Wee Georgie Robinson, a legend in sailing and Rugby League, and the close-knit Balmain community that supported her. The story is told in 102 pages and contains a wealth of images from glass-plate negatives and contemporary newspaper reports, as well as a large number of images from private collections rarely seen before. The revival of interest in the old open boats and the building of the replica in 2002 is also covered. Appendices include a list of most of the boats built by Wee Georgie and his brother John and a compilation of contemporary crew lists.
